Carlisle and Esme's bedroom

Carlisle felt a sudden burst of excitement as Esme said that they should renew their vows one day. He wanted nothing more then to give his wife the loviest wedding that she could ever dream of. One where all of their family and friends could attend and watch as this extraordinary women walked down the isle with such beauty and prefection.

"Esme darling, this will mean so much to Alice". Carlisle lifted one of Esme's hands and placed a gentle kiss onto it. He looked back up to her with awe in his eyes and smiled. Esme was the kindiest most gentle person that he had ever met and he knew that Alice was going to love the neckless given to her by Esme.

Esme looked down into his golden eyes with her lips pulled into up at both sides. " Oh Carlisle..I hope she will like it..It will look so lovely on her don't you think?"

"It will look beautiful on her love as it does on you". Carlisle watched as Esme went into deep thought of this wedding while looking down at him.

Esme sank into her chair, completely enslaved within her thoughts. Carlisle rose to his feet, stroking Esme's hair gently. He blurred to the other side of the room and back grabbing his suitcase. In this time Esme had risen to her feet once more and sat herself on the bed, "For vampires who were able to stay still for long periods of time she sure is moving around alot" Carlisle thought and chuckled out loud lightly, bringing Esme to make eye contact with him.

"Whats funny?" she asked.

Carlisle was now completely ready for work and stood by the door infront of his wife and smiling from ear to ear.

"Nothing my love, just the cuteness and innocence of you"

Esme grinned up at him and jumped up infront of him, entwining her hand in his golden hair, pulling him to her with a lingering kiss. Carlisle got lost in the moment for a second, dropping his case and taking his wife close to him, his arms wrapped around her waist tightly, they were distracted by the sound of Carlisle's pager. He let go of Esme, checking his pager, and then putting it back in his pocket. Esme then caught Carlisle gazing at her, she smiled as she gently flattened the back of his hair down where she'd unintentionally messed it up.

Carlisle knew that he needed to get to work but he also wanted to stay right there in the moment with Esme. He looked deep into her eyes and whispered into her ear.

" I better get going..I'll see you soon..I love you" He pulled back and kissed her soft lips once more.

Carlisle turned to place his hand on the door knob to leave when he felt a hand on his shoulder. Esme leaned up on his shoulders and kissed his cheek
" I love you two." she said and he smiled as he opened the bedroom door and headed downstairs.

He turned to the staircase before walking outside to see that Esme was at the top still smiling, watching him leave. Carlisle returned the smile to his adoring wife then blurred to his car and headed off to work.

Esme had watched watched Edward leave, she didn't allow anyone to go after him, he needed his time to be alone, she had a hunch that he was going to watch Bella as it was getting pretty late. She went to the conservatory to collect something and was greeted by her short conversation with Jasper. She thought he was relieved that she wasn't angry about the broken wall in the garage. She could have easily pretended to be angry, but she genuinely wasn't.

Esme wasn't angry often, if she was upset it's because she felt hurt. The fury had been so clear on Rosalie's face and it killed Esme slightly, it hurt her that she seemed to be the only one who didn't want Edward to be happy. She passed through the lounge and shot Rosalie a look as if to suggest they'll talk when everyone had calmed down and made her way to the master bedroom, she was there within 4 seconds. She suddenly felt a wave of happiness flood her body, she figured it was Jasper, she smiled to herself and made a mental note to thank him later.
Esme walked into the bedroom, closing the door behind her, on the far wall she gazed at the Cullen family painting that had been done fifty years beforehand. Esme looked at it carefully, wondering how happy Rosalie had ever been in her life. She wasn't smiling in the painting, she was the only one who wasn't...but then Rosalie enjoyed playing up for paintings and cameras also.

Esme laid herself on the bed and sighed. The family would meet Bella soon and she was desperate for it to go well. She didn't want Edward to give up on his dream of being with the one he loved. She could only hope that Rosalie would get over it. It was times like this Esme wished she could sleep. She closed her eyes but they were soon open again when she heard the bedroom door open, and then close again. She smiled.

Carlisle pushed open the door to the bedroom in one quick, simple movement to find Esme laying down on their bed. He could tell by the look on her gentle face that there were a lot of things on her mind and he could see the hint of sadness in her eyes from Rosalie and Edwards agrument.

He walked slowly over to the bedside and took a seat next to Esme. Esme's focus, from where he followed her eyes, was on the Cullen family painting. Carlisle did not like see'ing his wife sad or upset, so he moved closer to her and brushed the back of his hand across her cheek.

"Are you alright" he asked even though he knew the answer.

Esme answered with sheer sadness "Why doesn't she want Edward to be happy". She sighed as she looked into Carlisle's eyes.

"Maybe she just needs some time...She knows Edward would never put this family in danger". Carlisle didnt know if he could believe himself when he said that she just needed some more time. Rosalie wasn't one for getting used to things.

Carlisle laid his head down next to Esme's and softly kissed her forehead. He was disappointed in the way Rosalie had acted today towards Edward and now he would not see his son until the wedding. He just hoped that Edward would not change his mind about Bella because of what had happened. Carlisle let out a sigh and turned his face towards Esme's.

Esme buried her face into Carlisle's chest, not making eye contact, she wanted to be as close to him as she possibly could. She needed the comfort and affection.
Esme knew Rosalie didn't like change, but she couldn't understand why she couldn't accept that Edward was actually happy.

"A few days away will do him good...he promised me he'd come back" Carlisle nodded along, knowing that their son wouldn't break a promise to Esme. She continued to cling on to her husband, it genuinely upset her when the family argued, it didn't happen often but when it did it hit her hard.

Esme positioned Carlisle's arms so they were wrapped around her tight, if Esme squeezed herself any closer they could be one person. Carlisle smiled and kissed her forehead once more. She finally raised her head to look at her love.

Carlisle watched as Esme rose her head to look up at his face. He was silent for a few moments while he stared into her soft golden eyes. Seeing Esme hurt and upset like this really did a number on him. Esme's happiness was everything to Carlisle and he would do anything to try to make her feel better. Carlisle tried to lighten up the mood and slowly changed the subject.

"I hope Edward brings Bella by before the wedding so we can have a proper introduction". Carlisle smiled as he watched Esmes face change slightly.

Esme nodded "Yes, I would love to finally meet the girl who has stolen my sons heart". She chuckled as she said this.

Carlisle brushed back a piece of Esme's hair that had fallen into her face. He knew that she was still upset but at least he had a chance seen her smile and laugh.

Esme genuinely felt a little better by now. Seeing Carlisle's smile made everything feel better. She kissed the tip of his nose and remembered the gift she had brought him earlier in the day, she had planned to hide it in the office but it was in her bedside drawer, she reached over, taking the black box from her drawer, she was grinning now, she could see the curiosity on her love's face. She knelt next to Carlisle and handed him the box.

"A token of my appreciation my darling" she spoke softly. She knew that seeing the look on Carlisle's face when he saw his watch would make her entire day seem okay again. She smiled, eager for him to notice the engraving.

He opened the box...

Carlisle watched with curious eyes as he held the box that Esme had just given him in his hand. He slowly opened the box and a smile speard widely across his face. When he seen what the box contained inside, there was a gleam in his eyes. The watch was beautfil, shining gold and silver. Carlisle turned the watch over and over in his hand when he caught the sight of writing ..engraving on the watch.

He looked at the inside of the watch and seen Esme and his wedding date along with E & C. Carlisle was at a loss for words when he looked up at Esme. The smile was still beaming off of his face.

"Esme, this watch in magnificent..The engraving of our wedding date and our letters is lovely."

Carlisle undid the latch of the watch and slowly placed in around his wrist. He held his arm out and looked at the watch with awe in his eyes.

He moved over to Esme and softly kissed her gentle smooth lips.

"Thank you for this gift" he said with a smile "I didnt deserve this".

Carlisle wrapped his arms around Esme's neck and embraced her with a loving and adoring hug.

Esme gladly returned Carlisle's hug. She was ecstatic that he liked his gift...well like was an understatement, he appeared to love it. His adoration for the engraving meant the most, it was a personal touch which to Esme, made the gift what it was.
Esme broke the hug and looked at her sweetheart lovingly. Using a finger to trace his perfect lips, she smiled.

"You deserve the world Carlisle, the world and so much more" she drew her face towards him, giving him a kiss full of passion. It didn't matter how many years they had been in each others lives, everything and every kiss felt exciting, as if it was the first kiss.

It was nice to be having a little time where neither of them were worrying about what was going on downstairs.

Carlisle felt overwhelmed by such a loving and thoughtful gift, it made that very moment indescribable. How was I ever this lucky to deserve such an astounding woman such as her, he thought with a smile. Every moment with Esme was such a precious keep sake that he charished with all of his might, he could just stare into her eyes for eternity, never looking away and be the happiest man alive well in a same sense.

Carlisle sighed deeply with a smile "You're such an amazing woman Esme". Esme smiled and he knew that if she were able to, she would be blushing. Without Esme, Carlisle would of never found true happiness in this life. She was everything to him, so beautiful that any man would fall to his knees.

Esme nestled her head onto Carlisles neck and kissed it ever so lightly.

"Just having you here with me for the rest of forever is all I could ask for" he said with pure love and devotion in his voice.

Carlisle kissed the top of her silky carmel hair while resting his chin there in the kisses place.

Esme didn't want to move, she wanted to lay in Carlisle's arms forever. Given the choice she would happily have done so. But there was the wedding to arrange, invites to send and a furious Rosalie to keep calm. She sighed for a moment, she decided that while Carlisle was home, she didn't care about all that stuff.
She kicked her shoes off and got comfortable. She closed her eyes, she soon heard Carlisle do the same and get comfortable. Sometimes they imagined that they would fall asleep in each others arms...dream all night and then wake up together, in each others arms once more having not moved all night. It was their private dream, one thought of theirs they were able to keep hidden.

She sighed quietly, there wasn't a particular reason...maybe she was just overwhelmed with her worry for Edward and Rosalie, despite their arguing they'd never really admit they do care about each others feelings.
Esme adjusted her body to be laying on her side, laying a hand over Carlisle's chest, she glanced at his new watch whilst fiddling with a shirt button wondering who would break the silence first....she knew if she spoke, she would talk of her worries and that was the last thing she wanted.

Up in the master bedroom Esme could still hear Alice and Jasper giggling and chatting in happiness. Their day had been truly beautiful, they couldn't have wished for the day to go more smoothly if they tried. Esme took her place at her dressing table, locking away her gift from Jasper and removing the rest of the jewelery she'd been wearing during the day, only leaving on her own wedding band. She rose to her feet ready to change and turned to face the bed, Carlisle had already gotten out Esme's favourite lounge-wear for her.

Carlisle was laying on the bed, had removed his jacket and tie, Esme hoped he wouldn't change just yet, she loved him in a suit. Esme swiftly changed, hanging her dress up carefully in the closet, she'd probably never have an excuse to wear it again but it would be a sentiment to Alice and Jasper's day.

Esme curled up in the large armchair in the corner of their room, opening the book resting on the arm, she wasn't really reading it though, she was sneakily watching Carlisle, his eyes were closed, he looked peaceful. She heard the front door open then close again, Edward was home, she was able to make out another scent, he'd brought Bella back with him. Esme tried to make it not too obvious of her happiness for Edward but it was a struggle to hide. She smiled hearing Bella 'This is your house?!'.

She quickly moved herself from the chair to the bed, sitting on the edge next to Carlisle. His eyes still closed, he was grinning.

Carlisle could feel Esme staring at him but he kept his eyes closed. Then he heard the front door open, it was Edward and Bella which he knew from her scent. All he could hear was "this is your house". Carlisle smiled as he opened his eyes to catch site of the huge grin on Esmes face. He knew that she was exciting that Edward was giving him and Bella a chance.

Carlisle slightly turned his head to get a better view of his wifes lovely face "I'm glad Edward brought her home..Its been to long since we've seen him this happy"

Esme's smile had gotten even bigger as they could still hear the conversation going on between the two. They didnt like to ease drop but it was hard to ignore the voices when vampires could hear so good. The many years that Edward has been with Carlisle,he knew that he was never truly happy with this life, but seeing him smile tonight with Bella at his side was something that would make any parent proud.

Carlisle kept his eyes on Esme's as he lifted his hand up to rub it across the smooth surface of her check as she began to speak.

"You looked very handsome today my love" she gazed at Carlisle, closing her eyes for a fraction of a second at his touch.

Esme went back to her dresser, tying her hair back to look presentable and then went back to Carlisle, pulling him to his feet. He laughed and looked at her questionably.

"Come on, we're going to see Bella and Edward, get to know her" she grinned. Carlisle chuckled and sighed at the same time.

"Esme Cullen you are a hopeless romantic" he chuckled again pulling Esme close to him to kiss her. She happily obliged and kissed him back before pulling him downstairs with her.

Same evening

Esme and Carlisle reached their bedroom once more, the sound of Edward's piano playing was now very vague. Esme closed their door behind them. They were set for a quite couple of weeks. Alice and Jasper with their honeymoon and Edward spending more with Bella.
Esme felt her body be swept off her feet, she was now in Carlisle's arms, looking directly into his golden honey eyes. He kissed her before she could speak.

"Well hello" she smiled.

Carlisle laid Esme down on the bed before walking round to the other side of the bed to sit next to her, Esme reached a blanket over her legs, not particularly for any comfort, she didn't require that but she had become accustomed to her seemingly human habits. She drew her legs toward her chest, her back against the pillows but not before making space for Carlisle's arm. He put the book he knew she wanted in her lap, opening it for her. She smiled and kissed her husbands cheek.

"You're so good to me" she smiled.

Carlisle lightly chuckeled "You deserve it my love". He reach down, bringing her hand up to his face, and kissed it gently.

He knew Esme inside and out, whether it was the expression on her face or the language of her body. When you are around someone as long as they had been around eachother you start to learn everything about them.

"Bella seemed astonished by Edwards playing" he said with a smile "The song was beautiful he played for her. Edward seemed at ease with Bella by his side, he looked happy. Carlisle knew Esme was estatic about Bella and Edward and so was he.

Carlisle leaned his head next to Esme's arm as he watched her not concentrate on her book. He could tell by the way her eyes were that she wasnt even reading it, she was thinking about something.

Esme purposely forced her eyes to trace the words of the book, she could feel Carlisle watching her. Her face broke out in a grin, she couldn't fake anything infront of her beloved. Instead she closed the book quickly, alarming Carlisle's eyes, before he could speak she kissed his cheek.
Esme sat on her knees next to Carlisle looking down at him. She heard the front door open and close once more, Edward was taking Bella home. Her excitement could explode.

"Everything's going to be alright isn't it? Everyone's going to be happy" she spoke quietly. Carlisle nodded in agreement and lay an arm out for Esme.

Esme snuggled into Carlisle's arm. There had been lots of excitement over the last 24 hours and now she just wanted some quiet where she could hear her family's happiness in the house and converse with her husband. She playfully tickled at Carlisle's neck making him chuckle quietly. She giggled.

"I couldn't help it" she looked innocently.

Carlisle smiled as Esme giggled, her laugh always made him smile. Just when he was about to say something he heard voices being raised from the front room. He shot a glance to Esme knowing that she could hear it as well.

"We better get down there to calm Rosalie down" Esme nodded with a hint of worry in her eyes. No one hated when the family fought more then Esme and Carlisle.

In a hurry, they both got up and quickly went downstairs to see what was going on.

Same evening - Esme finds Edwards letter

Esme walked the length of the hallway, passing Edward's room, his scent lingered, she smiled warmly for a moment but then she frowned remembering...Edward had left them. Esme made her way into the master bedroom, sitting on the corner of her bed she watched dust particles in the room until she saw something sparkle in the corner of her eye. Her eyes turned towards her dresser before standing and following the sparkle. There was a small crystal heart placed on her jewellery box with a fixing at the top of it, the kind that meant Esme could attach it to a necklace.

She let the heart sit in the palm of her hand as she admired it, the glisten of the sun reflected on the crystal, shining it onto Esme's face, she turned to the window where the sun shined at her, the room could easily be mistaken for there being many crystals in the room, the entire room was glistening. There was something else on the jewellery box that Esme hadn't yet spotted, her eyes soon found it, a piece of paper. She gently put the crystal heart onto the dresser before sitting at her dresser with the piece of paper. She gasped, it was Edward:

To my dearest Esme.

I apologise for my actions this evening, I apologise for hurting you as much as I did. There is no excuse for the way I acted, nor an excusable reason for me to do what I did.

I truly regret what I have done to you, I have caused both yourself and Carlisle disappointed and pain because of what I did, for that, there aren't a million apologises that will make up for that.

I don't want you to suffer any more, all the problems over recent months are due to my own actions, I have only thought of myself and not of how it will effect this family. My actions this evening has proven that I don't belong here, not anymore. You deserve all the happiness in the world Esme, you deserve the family you have always craved for. I however don't belong in this plan, I make this family unhappy, I cause mountains of problems.

So for this, I need to leave, so you and Carlisle can move on, be the family unit that will come once I have left. I just should have done this sooner then I did.

I promise that I will respect Carlisle and will not ever feast on humans, this is the only promise I can make you now. I am sorry I bought shame on this family. But more importantly, I am sorry for disappointing you.

Good bye Esme, take care of everyone, your happiness is all that matters and I want you to have that more then anymore.

Edward

Esme read Edward's intricate handwriting once more before folding the letter up rising to her feet. She moved to her bed, tucking the note under her pillow. She looked at the pristine white pillow that was rarely used and spoke to herself with a whisper.

'I could never hate you Edward...I'm not even angry" she stroked the pillow knowing the letter was underneath there before moving to sit cross legged in the middle of the bed with her thoughts.

Esme closed her eyes, beginning to make out the scent of her soulmate speeding up the stairs. She knew he must have been worrying, about her and Edward. They would look after each other until they could speak to Edward. Rosalie had Emmett and Alice and Jasper didn't need to know. She smiled, recognising Carlisle's sweet scent clearly now. He rapped quietly on the door.

"It's okay Carlisle, you can come in"

Carlisle entered the room in a human pace, noticing by the sound of Esme's voice that something was wrong. He walked over to their bed, going to the side that she was sitting and placed a hand onto her shoulder.

"What is wrong my dear" he asked in a low voice. He was sure that all of the mess that had happened was really upsetting her but there was something else. Edward leaving was hard to deal with, he was Carlisle and Esme's first son. This was going to upset the family until he hopefully returned. Edward has left before but he came back in years time but years wasnt something that Carlisle wanted to wait for. This situation could be worked out. leaving is not the answer. The look in her eyes was more then stress, more then hurt, it was something Carlisle hardly ever seen. Sitting down onto the bed, he moved his hand down to her hand and kept it there until she was ready to talk.

Esme stared at the wall as her husband spoke. It pained her that Edward had left. It has been decades since he'd last done it and he'd been gone a couple of years so who knew how long he would stay away this time. One relief that came to Esme was that he'd promised not to hunt humans unlike his last rebellion.

Esme shifted her body so she was looking at Carlisle, she rested one hand on his knee, her other hand clasping Edward's letter, she took one more glance at her beloved son's handwriting before handing it to Carlisle. She watched his eyes as they moved over Edward's words, speaking to him at the same time.

"Edward left this. He thinks we're angry" Esme spoke with sadness. She understood Rosalie's actions and Edward's actions. She didn't like that they let their disagreement come to violence but she certainly wasn't mad.

Carlisle looked up at Esme, he'd clearly finished reading the letter. Esme gently squeezed his knee in silent support.

Carlisle was unsure of what to say. Edward needed to know that Esme and Carlisle were not angry with him, what he did was wrong but it was not his fault.

'He will come back soon..I hope' he reached over and hugged Esme. If Rosalie went to apologize, he would see that no one was angry with him and that he could come home. Carlisle pulled back and looked into Esme's eyes 'He will be back' he said with hope in his voice
